The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939)

Arguably one of the best films of 1939, William Dieterle’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a piece of Hollywood perfection. Everything in this film just works. Towering over it is Charles Laughton’s touching performance as Quasimodo in a film in which he truly suffered.
